This week we chat with Playaz’ very own Taxman…
“I think it must have been around 1995/96. I was listening to and mixing hardcore before that…My brother (Original Sin) started bringing home loads of Good Looking Records tunes, which I thought were amazing and sounded so different to anything I’d ever heard before, and a big track at the time which really caught my attention was Chameleon’s ‘Links’ (1995).
That filtered white noise on the intro, with the Ferris Bueller samples, and then all those Rhodes start filtering, just sounded so deep and meaningful to me at the time – it made me think that this was the music for me!
And then one day, we both went into town and bought the ‘Sawtooth’ album by Jonny L, which just blew me away. It was very different to the GLR stuff and sounded like an alien invasion to me. Tracks like ‘Moving Thru Air’ and ‘Obedience’ for example, so dark and different sounding again….
I never bought another hardcore record after that…”
