Every year, August rolls around and every Londoner gets turned to the idea of rolling bass, street soundsystems, rice and peas, brightly coloured parades and Notting Hill tube stop being impossibly overcrowded...yes,

And nothing quite gets Carnival heads in the mood like our annual Playaz special – the once a year all-in-one stop for the freshest sounds of drum & bass. Hype and Pascal have lined up three rooms of diversified beats, tightrope walking the line between the delicately drawn subgenres within. Room One will hit fast and furious with a typical Playaz brigade, bringing the hench sounds of some of D&B’s most hard-hitting pioneers – the slamming sounds of Grooverider, Hazard’s tearing basslines, the official-badboy stamp (contrary to the name) of Potential Badboy, and even the unexpectedly deeper and soul-fuelled hit of revolutionary Lynx. In Room Two, things take a turn for the smooth, as the mellifluous yet challenging sounds of the masters come to the forefront – the funk-laced Fabio, the deep roll of Marcus Intalex and the innovative record crate of D-Bridge, as well as dancefloor drivers Addiction and Spectrasoul. Up in Room Three, however, tech is the word – as the severe sounds of Noisia come up against the techy stomp of Fierce, the forward-looking Ed Rush and the meticulous precision of Calyx and Prolix. Hold tight inside, make sure the safety catch is off your gun finger.

The following night, step away from the soundsystem frolics and step into a lush 4/4 groove, as some of the most art-driven and imaginative names in house and techno invade the club’s every corner. Wagon Repair’s Konrad Black comes through with his flawless touch, crafting a set that brims with sublimely complex and emotive productions, while Matthew Dear returns with his tougher Audion moniker, an exploration in layered polyrhythms and intricacies that seep deep into every subconscious. Also an upheld fixture on Ghostly’s Spectral Sound alongside label mate Audion, Süd Electronic boss Ian Abrahams comes ringing through in the shape of his Bodycode moniker. A more dancefloor-based discovery than his atmospheric work as Portable, under Bodycode’s guise Abrahams flirts with tech-funk syncopations and African sounds, as encapsulated brilliantly on his latest album offering, ‘Immune.’ Another album launching festivity lands over in Room Two, as DJ T celebrates the release of his immaculate ‘The Inner Jukebox’ LP alongside his Get Physical family in Room Two, calling upon the punchy sounds of Heidi and shimmery grace of Einzelkind...not to mention Silversurfer unleashing his Siopsis project - a more housey affair than his previous Crosstown Rebels forays - on our system. And Room Three will glow with the warm sounds of legendary beatmakers and longtime friends Hipp-E and Halo, making a long overdue appearance together. A big helping of lunatic grooves; stripped-back and soulful, offbeat and glitchy. In a word: bliss.

The following night, Wetyourself presents Get Loaded in the Park’s Official After Party (after the festival finishes in Clapham Common), featuring a party-starting list of DJs from the festival itself, plus a very special headline guest – exclusive to this afterhours show. Due to the immense lineup, WYS will be expanding beyond the usual Room One parameters and opening up all three rooms of the disco for a special Bank Holiday blowout (following their previously epic parties featuring the likes of Miss Kittin, Ellen Allien, DJ Hell and Chris Liebing). Leading the charge for Get Loaded’s post-in-the-park knees up will be the dynamic duo that is Simian Mobile Disco. No strangers to our floor, nor our back catalogue (after their blistering FABRICLIVE 41 contribution), SMD will be dropping dancefloor gold in Room One, shortly before they drop their second album, ‘Temporary Pleasure,’ on an eagerly awaiting public. Supported by WYS residents Peter Pixzel and Cormac, resident Jacob Husley will also be bringing his Husley & Gunz project to complete the all-embracing lineup. Over in Room Two, the Dim Mak crew take over, led from the front by label boss and all round Dim Mak guru, Steve Aoki. After hosting their own stage at Get Loaded in the Park earlier in the day, Dim Mak will be bringing the gunfinger-triggering beats with label cohorts, the vibrant and electric Italian duo, The Bloody Beetroots. As always, keep an eye out for their characteristic venom masks. And to round things off, WYS’ friends and family host our more intimate Room Three with the swirling sounds of Stereo Addiction, Kanio, Betoko and John&On.
