Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away Drum And Bass was not divided into subgenres. It was a cutting edge future style of music with one vision – to deliver the whole universe of soundscapes and basslines embossed onto the freshest beats platform. This Way Up aims at bringing D’n’B back to where it belongs. No divisions – just pure energy flowing seamlessly from liquid to neurofunk territories of sound.
Concept:
The concept behind Arena One is The Balance of The Force: We strategically and purposely placed the desired aritsts in a sequence on the night so that each new DJ stepping up adds more techy element to what their precedessor played gradually increasing the music's impact and making sure your This Way Up experience progresses smoothly from rolling organics to neuro/tech craziness and beyond.
Arena Two is where the dark forces of Sudden Def reign so if you're ready to dive into the full on D'n'B onslaught from the get go - this room is for you!

The next This Way Up event night falls on the 4th of May 2008, hence the Star Wars themed ‘May the fourth be with you’ motto of the event.
With this in mind we want to take the listeners on an intergalactic voyage from brighter to darker side of the Drum and Bass universe in a seamless exciting transition.
We start the night off with sounds from the deeper side of the Liquid Funk D’n’B spectrum with artists such as Shuffle b2b Hayze, Nymfo, Lynx and Break gradually building up energy and evolving into the techier sounds of Drum and Bass, the ensuing sets lead by Teebee and Jade encompass the scenes leading sounds of Neurofunk followed by the USA’s own Robot Death Squads debut UK show and residents IZM Displaced take the final voyage into the hard hitting tech battle in the stars. In the words of Lord Vader: Do Not Underestimate The Force!

After unleashing the cyclone upon the D’n’B world with his and Calyx’s recent heavyweight Anatomy LP the Jedi Knight of the decks will be gracing London with his latest dj performance. Expect the sickness of the highest order.
BREAK – the Luke Skywalker of the fattest basslines, crunchiest beats and crystal clear engineering Break proves to be one of the most prolific producers in the scene, with outings on such prime labels as Commercial Suicide, Quarantine, Critical, Invaderz, Subtitles, Metalheadz, Shadow Law, DNAudio and his newly established output Symmetry to name a few. His every dj set is crammed full of freshest dubs blended perfectly with underground classics. You have been warned.
LYNX – the force is strong with this true Drum And Bass legend in the making. After his electrifying ‘Disco Dodo’ track took over both UK and global D’n’B scenes Lynx has been busy sculpting his sound further which resulted in a plethora of organic roller killers. With the highly anticipaded material he is to release on the forthcoming Soul:R EP his set is bound to be the one to remember.
NYMFO - has been a part of D’n’B for well over a decade, he is a mastermind and organizer of the number one events in the Netherland’s and a DJ with a massive 12 years of club experience. His production output has been picked by such scene heavyweights as: Andy C’s RAM Records, Renegade Recordings, Critical, Frequency and the huge Shogun Limited. Prepare for a lethal bass injection!
JADE – DJing at last This Way Up he unleashed a sonic mayhem on a scale of the Death Star’s most powerful lasers. With his hot off the pressing plant releases on Citrus and Close 2 Death it’s time for a payback. Prepare for the next portion of exclusive dubplates and techy madness!
ROBOT DEATH SQUAD – having put their twisted beats out on such seminal imprints as Moving Shadow and remixing for Barcode Recordings RDS remain on of the deadliest producers on the global D’n’B circuit. Don’t miss their debut UK show – it’s bound to set the floor on fire!
SHUFFLE – with the vibes deep enough to make Jabba The Hut’s belly dancers melt Shuffle will be dropping pure D’n’B hotness. From steppy rollers to Liquid Funk lushness – Intense Records’ boss has an arsenal full of soulful dubplate weapons and is not afraid to use it!
HAYZE - DJ Hayze has been mixing drum & bass for around 8 years playing many different styles to reflect his wide taste in music. Hayze is the head of and runs Sonorous Music: a new label taking the dnb scene by storm. Hayze is fully trained in sound engineering & is also making his own beats.
DISPLACED – his lightsabre technique is so damn good even Princess Leia goes absolutely mental. Ruse Records label owner and the Emperor of This Way Up artist agency is going to showcase the newest dubs alongside last label signings which took Beatport’s charts by storm.
IZM – the Boba Fett of the beats and bass - his ‘dancefloor anthems’ will ‘take you on a journey’ and with ‘something for the ladies’ and ‘summertime vibes’ you will be asking for an ‘instant rewind’ in no time! And you dunno!
The second arena is moving even further into the galaxy of various Drum & Bass sounds. Taking care of the bassbins there is Sudden Def – one of the most consistent and progressive D’n’B labels on the UK scene and a team behind a string of the highest quality Def:Inition events celebrating 10 Years of Sudden Def Recordings tour.
LOXY – one of the foundations of the modern D’n’B scene and an integral part of the sinister Horsemen crew Loxy never disappoints the bass hungry ravers. Dubs so heavy they could make a Darth Vader fall into a coma is what you should expect when you witness his set.
RED ONE – one of the founders behind the Ram Records empire Red One is nothing short of a drum and bass expert; he knows everything there is to know about drum & bass. For the most part because he does everything there is to do in drum & bass almost on a daily basis! He DJs, produces, engineers, manages, promotes, you name it he does it all. Just about everyone in the scene knows him and everyone respects him.
BASHER – progressing as a producer over a few years and gathering good feedback from respected beat makers Basher soon built up the confidence to send his tracks to the major record labels in the drum and bass scene. Through doing this he received a call from Ram Records boss Andy.C and soon signed exclusively to the ram entity. Basher is now currently working in the studio with many respected artists in the drum and bass scene aswell as djing on a worldwide scale.
SLEEPER CELL – the surgical precission in sculpting the technoid d’n’b sound is what makes this producer truly unique. Couple that with his clinical DJ skills and you’re sure to get trapped into a maze of razor sharp beats, cold minimal soundscapes and gut twisting basslines. Sudden Def / Contaminated / DSCI4 are amongst the labels to sign his tracks and his dubplate packed set is bound to set the floor on fire.
SUBTERRA - is quickly developing a reputation for being one of the most versatile young djs in the drum n bass scene, and has every intention of continuing to push the boundaries with his mixing skills, whilst keeping busy in the studio and pleasing crowds wherever he plays.
INTER – this highly skilled deck technician is also one of the heads behind the Sudden Def Recordings. With lightyears of club playout experience and some truly heavyweight material his set is sure to provide 100% sickness. Recognize.
